From a calculator to a hammer.
Farrell—the founder and president of YFI—got his start in business as a Certified Public Accountant in the early 80’s in Boston.
Not feeling exactly fulfilled with his chosen profession, Glenn decided to challenge himself to follow his passion for building fine homes, so he moved to Maine in 1985 to establish YFI Custom Homes. And has never looked back.
Quite the contrary, Glenn has always had his eyes on the next step—looking for the next piece of YFI he could develop to create the company it has grown to today. The first part was YFI Custom Homes. Later he created YFI Millworks, a cabinet and custom millwork shop that works hand-in-hand with YFI Custom Homes to handcraft the interiors that make each client’s home special and unique.
Glenn credits his parents for giving him his start in building. Fortunately for Glenn, his parents bought a riverfront lot right next door to their home in Cape Neddick, Maine. When they decided to build a home on this property, Glenn jumped at the chance to take on the project. That was in 1985 and its been nonstop ever since. (History lesson over.)
Today, YFI — a longimte member of AWI (the Architectural Woodwork Institute) — continually seeks out the best subcontractors in each field and works closely as a team to make certain that the projects we build exceed all client expectations.
But what we do isn’t about a single transaction. We believe that above all else it’s the relationships we build with our clients that matter the most. In fact, many of our projects come from word of mouth and a lot of our clients have become repeat customers and good friends.
